Email to all Labour TDs re: Richard Humphries's comments on the Free Gaza Flotilla
Dear Labour TD,
I read with amazement, shock and disbelief Richard Humphries's press release about the Free Gaza Flotilla.
What amazed me most of all was not his disdain for those travelling on the flotilla (disgusting and all as this disdain was), but his lack of knowledge surrounding the attacks on last year's flotilla.
The main contention here, for me, was the labelling of the Turkish human rights workers as "terrorists" (they are from a human rights organisation that has as much standing in Turkey as the Red Cross has here), but then to go on and say that they "attempted to kill and injure members of the Israeli Defence Forces in front of their colleagues". This is just untrue. To take a lie and promote it as truth is a very dangerous thing in a democracy - what's next? How could these "terrorists" have attempted to kill members of the IDF? The members of the IDF were in helicoptors, abseiling down on to the flotilla ships and shooting as they went (the shot in the top of the head of one of the flotilla members testifies to the fact that if the flotilla members did indeed "attempt to kill members of the IDF" then they did so in sefl-defence). Needless to say, I don't believe that they did try to kill any IDF member.
Further to that, to then label the efforts of the very brave people who are going on the flotilla this year as simply a "Mediterranean jaunt" is to really take from the seriousness of the action, of the situation in Gaza, and of the dignity of those who died last year.
I would love to hear your response to this press release, and that response will be a serious constituent in whether I ever vote for Labour again.

You are a lawyer - I believe even a "legal advisor" to the Labour Party - yet I look in vain in your utterances for any mention of legality or illegality. The actions and policies of the Israeli government in relation to the protected (4th Geneva Convention) people of the Occupied Palestinian Territory are in violation of international law and international humanitarian law. Their actions against last year's and this year's Freedom Flotilla were/are in violation of maritime law. You are indifferent to this, because you are an unconditional supporter of the rogue state of Israel. You are a disgrace to your profession, and unfit to be a public representative.
