Save Clontarf Promenade
Dear Dublin City Councillor,
I am writing to object to the decision of Dublin City Council to erect a flood barrier in Clontarf.
While I do not object to the need for a flood barrier, I do not agree with the way this is being forced upon the people of Dublin, in particular:
- That this was secretly pushed through planning in 2008 and the only public consultation that took place was 2 notices - 1 hanging in Marino Library (not Clontarf) and the other in the Bird Sanctuary in Bull Island.
- The tunnel-like design of the barrier will make parts of the promenade unsafe to walk on
- The barrier will be up to 7 foot high in parts, and will effectively destroy this much-loved amenity.
I would like to hear from you personally as to what your views are on the barrier and what alternatives you would propose.
Yours sincerely,
